The Hong Kong residents' northern dream: Becoming a truly "green" farmer

Green, pollution-free… As people become more health-conscious, their demands for food safety are steadily rising. Once upon a time, Hong Kong residents would typically avoid Chinese imports altogether. But does that mean farms on the mainland necessarily rely heavily on pesticides, excessive additives, or simply maintain poor hygiene standards?

This time, the protagonist of our story, Mr. Li Daodé (hereafter referred to as "Mr. Li"), has personally demonstrated through his own experiences that as long as we hold firm信念, China’s agricultural products can absolutely be safe—and that China’s green agriculture truly has a promising future. A native of Hong Kong, Mr. Li made the bold decision in his mid-fifties to leave behind the comfortable, affluent life of the city and venture into the rugged mountainous regions of southern Hunan Province, where he painstakingly established a large-scale, eco-friendly farm. All of this was driven by one simple yet profound aspiration: to create郴州展翔绿色农业有限公司 (referred to hereafter as "Zhanxiang Agriculture"), dedicated to producing crops and livestock entirely free from pollution, ensuring both human health and the preservation of natural ecosystems.

From city dweller to rural farmer: the legendary transformation from "Boss" to "Farmer"

The countryside is far from the city where Li Sheng lives; agriculture, it seems, has little to do with his daily life. Originally, Li Sheng ran a sizable plastic-mold factory in Dongguan, enjoying a comfortable and carefree existence. But after participating in 2004 in a massive charity walk—organized as a relay race spanning over 8,000 kilometers, crossing 10 provinces and cities, and passing through 101 districts and counties—he found his life taking an unexpected turn. Reflecting on that year’s fundraising trek to support education, Li Sheng recalls traveling to Gansu and witnessing the vast loess plateau: for 100 kilometers, not a single tree was in sight—only swirling dust clouds blanketing the landscape. Then, as he passed through Hunan’s coal-mining regions, he saw people and animals covered head-to-toe in thick, jet-black coal ash. The stark reality of environmental devastation weighed heavily on him, leaving him deeply moved and determined to find ways to make a difference.
